Public Beta

Getting started.

Everything you need to download the beta, set up your account, and start tracking rounds. If something feels broken or confusing, let us know — that's exactly why you're here.

Downloading the Beta

Lies Golf is distributed through Apple's TestFlight platform on iOS. Android is in development and will follow through Google Play's early access program.

iOS (iPhone)

Requires iOS 16 or later

1

Install TestFlight

On your iPhone, open the App Store and search for TestFlight. It's a free app made by Apple — the official platform for beta apps. Install it before continuing.

2

Open the beta invitation on your iPhone

Tap the link below on your iPhone (it won't work from a desktop browser):

3

Accept the invitation

TestFlight opens automatically and shows the Lies Golf beta. Tap Accept.

4

Install and open the app

Tap Install. The app downloads and appears on your home screen with a small orange dot — the TestFlight indicator. Tap it to open.

💡 Tip

TestFlight updates automatically when we push new builds. You'll get a notification when a new version is ready — no need to re-join.

Android

Coming soon via Google Play

🚧 Coming Soon

The Android beta is not yet available. We're actively working on it — reach out via the support page to be notified when it launches.

When Android launches, it will be distributed through Google Play's early access program. You'll receive a link that opens the Play Store directly — no separate app required. Tap Join the beta, then Install. Updates come through the Play Store like any other app.

Using the App

A section-by-section walkthrough of every part of Lies Golf.

Dashboard

The dashboard is your home screen. At a glance it shows:

  • Handicap index: Your current Lies Handicap (unofficial), updated automatically after every round.
  • Round counts: Outdoor, simulator, and social rounds logged for the year, plus scoring room wins.
  • Recent activity: Your last few rounds with course name, date, format, gross score, and differential.
  • Quick actions: Tap "Play a Round" to start logging, or head to the Social tab for scoring rooms.

Logging an Outdoor Round

From the dashboard tap Play a Round → Outdoor Round. You have two options:

Score Live

Track your round hole by hole as you play. Search for your course, select your tees, and score each hole on the GPS scorecard. The map shows your current location and your distance to the hole from where you're standing. You can also tap anywhere on the map to drop a distance pin — the app draws a line and shows the yardage between pins, useful for measuring layup targets or hazard carry distances.

Upload Scorecard

Already played and have the paper scorecard? Select your course and tee, then snap a photo of the printed scorecard. AI reads your scores automatically — review, correct anything it missed, and save.

1

Start a round

Tap Play a Round → Outdoor Round → Score Live.

2

Find your course

Search by course name. Select the correct tees — course rating and slope load automatically for verified courses.

3

Set up your group

Add any playing partners by display name or leave it as a solo round. For group scoring, each person can use their own phone or you can keep score for everyone from one device.

4

Score each hole

Enter your score for the hole. Optionally log the club used, fairway hit, GIR, and putts for stat tracking. Swipe to advance to the next hole.

5

Finish the round

After 18 holes (or 9), tap Finish Round. Review the scorecard and save. Your handicap updates within seconds.

💡 Tip

The round auto-saves after every hole. If you leave the app mid-round, you'll get a prompt to resume when you return.

Logging a Simulator Round

Tap Play a Round → Simulator Round. Three options:

Score Live

Track your sim session hole by hole in real time, the same way you would an outdoor round. Search for the course you're playing on the simulator, select tees, and enter scores as you play. The round saves as a simulator round and feeds your handicap.

  1. Tap Score Live.
  2. Search for and select the course loaded in your simulator.
  3. Score each hole as you play through the session.
  4. Tap Finish Round when done.

Enter Manually

Already finished your session and want to log it after the fact?

  1. Tap Enter Manually.
  2. Enter the course name, date, and your total score.
  3. Add course rating and slope if known (required for a handicap differential).
  4. Save.

Import CSV

Export a session file from your simulator software and import it directly. Supported formats:

  • GSPro
  • Foresight Sports (GC Quad, GC3, GCHawk)
  • Trackman (Range or Course mode)
  • SkyTrak
  1. Export the CSV from your simulator software.
  2. On iPhone, save the file to the Files appfirst — the importer can't read directly from some cloud sources.
  3. Tap Import CSV and select your file.
  4. Review the parsed data on the confirmation screen and save.

AI Caddie

The AI Caddie gives club recommendations based on your actual shot history, current conditions, and hole data. It's available as a floating button on every screen in the app — not just during rounds.

1

Open the caddie drawer

Tap the caddie icon (floating action button) on any screen. A drawer slides up from the bottom.

2

Set your conditions (optional)

The app auto-fills wind speed, direction, and temperature from your current GPS location using live weather data. You can override any field manually. Set elevation (flat / uphill / downhill) for the shot.

3

Ask your question

Type a question or tap a prompt. The caddie reads your bag, handicap, recent rounds, and live conditions to give a specific recommendation — not generic advice.

4

During a round

When you're actively scoring a round, there's also an inline caddie strip pinned to the scorecard — tap it to get a hole-specific recommendation without opening the full drawer. The caddie knows the current hole, par, your distance to the hole, and your score so far.

ℹ️ Note

The caddie gets better as you log more rounds. It uses your actual carry averages per club (including ¼, ½, and ¾ swing distances) — so the first few rounds it has less to work with. Make sure your bag is set up in the Bag tab for the best results.

Scoring Rooms

Scoring rooms let any group score a round together with a shared live leaderboard — whether you're on the course, in a sim bay, or split between both.

Available formats:

Stroke Play
Best Ball
Stableford
Skins
Nassau
Match Play
Wolf
Vegas
ScrambleEarly beta
ShambleEarly beta
1

Open the Social tab

Tap the Social icon in the bottom navigation bar.

2

Create a room

Tap New Room. Select your course, choose 9 or 18 holes, pick a game format, and set handicap options.

3

Add players

Add players from your friends list, or have them join with the room code. You can also add named guests for players who don't have the app.

4

Share the room code

Tap Share Code to send the 5-character code via iMessage, WhatsApp, or any app. Friends join by tapping Join Room in the Social tab and entering the code.

5

Score in real time

Enter scores hole by hole. The leaderboard updates live for everyone in the room. For bet formats (Nassau, Vegas, Wolf, Skins) the running totals are tracked automatically.

💡 Tip

You can also invite players directly via a deep link — sharing a room sends a liesgolf://join?code=XXXXX link that opens the app and pre-fills the join code.

Bag & Club Stats

The Bag tab shows performance data for every club, pulled from your simulator CSV imports and outdoor shot log.

  • Carry distance: Average carry per club from simulator data and logged outdoor shots. Displays full, ¾, ½, and ¼ swing estimates.
  • Ball speed: From simulator sessions — requires data in your imported CSV.
  • Club speed: Head speed at impact, from simulator data.
  • Smash factor: Ball speed ÷ club speed — a measure of strike efficiency.
  • Total distance: Rollout total when your simulator exports it (carry + run).

ℹ️ Note

Club stats only appear where your imported data includes them. Not all simulator software exports every stat — check what yours tracks before expecting full data.

Hybrid Handicap

Lies Golf calculates a Lies Handicap — an unofficial index using the World Handicap System formula across both your outdoor rounds and simulator sessions. One number that reflects your whole game.

  • Updates automatically within seconds of saving a round.
  • Uses your best 8 of the last 20 differentials (standard WHS calculation).
  • Outdoor rounds use official course + slope ratings.
  • Simulator rounds use the course rating if entered, or are marked unrated (and excluded from the index).
  • Displayed everywhere as "Lies Handicap (Unofficial)" — it's honest, not certified.
  • Tap the handicap index on your profile to see a full breakdown of contributing rounds.

Leagues & Golf Trips

Leagues

Season-long competitions in Stroke, Stableford, or Net formats. A commissioner creates the league, shares a join code, and standings update automatically as members log rounds.

1

Create or join

Go to Social → Leagues. Tap Create League to start one as commissioner, or tap Join and enter the code.

2

Set the season

Commissioners set the format, start/end dates, and handicap rules. Eligible rounds count toward standings automatically as members play.

3

Watch the standings

Standings update in real time. Tap any player to see their round-by-round breakdown and differential history.

Golf Trips

Trips group multiple rounds played by a crew over several days — a weekend away, a buddies trip, a golf vacation. Create a trip, add your crew, and all rounds played during the trip collect in one place with a group summary and running leaderboard.

Apple Watch

🚧 Coming Soon

The Apple Watch companion app is built and in testing but is not yet bundling correctly in the current TestFlight build. It will be available in an upcoming beta update.

When available, the Watch app will let you:

  • See your GPS distance to the hole from your wrist during a live round.
  • Score each hole without taking out your phone.
  • Get the current AI caddie club recommendation pushed to the Watch face.
  • Advance holes and finish the round from your wrist.

ℹ️ Note

The Watch app installs automatically alongside the iPhone app on any paired Apple Watch running watchOS 9 or later — no separate download required once the build issue is resolved.
